The tradition of the Angkor Khmer people

The Angkor people and more specifically, the Kralan ceremony are a culturally and spiritually preserved pieces of the Siem Reap region in Cambodia. It is conducted on the full moon day of the month of Bus through which people come together to celebrate their dead ancestors.

Kralan ceremony largely stem from ages with historical background and belongs highly to the cultural evolution of Angkor. This occasion relates basically to the custom of ancestor worship of the people of Angkor and the belief that the souls of the dead are present in the spirit world.

The Kralan – which is considered to beimeInterval a special kind of offering which is made from the rice, the beans and the sesame seeds, and all of which are being wrapped in banana leaves, and then are put in pyramidal form- is prepared and offered during the ceremony. The Kralan is either put on fire, to honor the dead, or left there to be picked up by the visiting monks. This act represents act which represents generosity or manifestation of compassion towards spirits of the deceased individuals. 

The ritual is performed in Kork Ta Chan Village, Kork Chak Sangkat, Siem Reap City, Siem Reap Province.
